Dominion of the Ruin unfolds in a reimagined ancient Greek mythological world, roughly circa 500 BCE, just prior to the Persian invasion. Instead of the traditional Greek creation narrative that starts with Chaos, this game proposes an alternative origin. The tale begins with Pneuma, an untainted energy source preexisting both gods and fates. The story then follows the familiar path of Greek mythology up to the Titanomachy, where the devastation from the battle was so severe that Pneuma, under constant stress and damage, began to fracture. This fissure in Pneuma eventually led to the emergence of Skotos. Skotos, representing the antithesis of life, sought to annihilate everything Pneuma had painstakingly created.

The wars and havoc brought by Skotos on the earth goddess, Gea, are so severe that she beseeches Pneuma to extract a fragment of her essence and suspend the larger world in stasis. Heeding her plea, Pneuma confines Skotos within this isolated realm, alongside all of Hades, Tartarus and some of the realm of the living. It was Pneuma’s hope that the humans of this realm would rally to help the gods but Skotos had other plans for the realm of the living.

This new world, named Gēpolemos (ge = land + polemos = war), is but a fraction of the size of ancient Greece. At its center lies an island, its core continuously expanding, forming a chasm bridging Hades with the land of the living. The Olympians, aided by legions of the departed, battle relentlessly to prevent Skotos's monsters and the Titans from breaching Tartarus and invading the mortal plane.

In the mystical realm of Gēpolemos, born from the union of Gea's desperation and Pneuma's might, a land of dramatic contrasts and enduring legends unfolds. This world, sculpted by divine hands, reveals itself in varied landscapes, each echoing the profound tales and complex dynamics of its inhabitants.
